Elyssa Barrick

Hi there! I'm Elyssa, a PhD candidate in the Clinical Neuroscience Lab at Case Western Reserve University. I work with Dr. Sarah Hope Lincoln studying social functioning in psychosis—specifically, how cognitive and interpersonal factors shape daily interactions. My goal is to translate clinical research into meaningful, real-world changes that help improve social outcomes for individuals with serious mental illness. Take a look at my research page to find out more about my current and past projects!

Aside from my research, I like exploring ways to make science more accessible and engaging. I designed and taught an undergraduate course on science communication at CWRU, where I helped students develop clear, compelling ways to share scientific knowledge. If you're curious, I’ve shared my course materials and slides here—feel free to take a look!

I also care deeply about making the path to graduate school more transparent and accessible. I know firsthand how challenging the psychology grad school application process can be—especially when so much of the critical information isn’t openly shared. To help change that, I’ve mentored students and worked with the psychology department's diversity committee to support applicants from underrepresented and underprivileged backgrounds. If you’re looking for guidance, I’ve put together some resources here that might help.
